The Neighbors of Playa Conchal located in the town of Brasilito, in Santa Cruz de Guanacaste, are complaining about the existence of an irregular vehicular transit in the area that would harm the ecosystem.

The claim was raised in a constitutional complaint against the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) and the Municipality of Santa Cruz.

According to the complaint, the site is affected by the transit of vehicles through a natural heritage of the State.

“The complainants asure that vehicles are illegally passing through the protected area, creating a path or track prints that has destroyed part of the ecosystem. They claim that the dunes, berm, mangrove, estuary mouth and beach are been used to cross from Playa Brasilito to Puerto Viejo,” cites the complaint.

They also staated that this situation occurs in plain view of the authorities, who do not provide any protection.

According to the complainants, the path of the dune is also used as parking and camping lots, a situation that favors erosion processes that destroy and fragmentes the dunes. Apparently, in this protected site merchants install craft’s stalls, massage tables and even makeshift kitchens, without any control.
