Video shows turtle death by garbage in Puntarenas

November 6, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A video provided to CRHoy.com shows a large number of small dead turtles, stuck in the trash at El Cocal beach.

A citizen named Jurgen Formanek was the one who recorded the video and said that because of the huge amount of trunks, branches, and waste, among other things, the turtles could not continue their trip to the beach and unfortunately die in the attempt.

The video was published on the Facebook of the regional media “Puntarenas se Oye”, where they applaud Formanek’s act of rescuing several baby turtles and taking them to the sea.

Of about 100 turtles, only a certain percentage can reach the sea. It is a sad thing and the Muni Puntarenas is asked to make a quick cleaning on the whole beach, because if they come once, they will keep coming and if we take care of this beautiful work, we can have something beautiful in the future,”

they said in the publication.
