Volcanoes Poás and Turrialba maintain material output

May 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

In the last 24 hours, Poás and Turrialba volcanoes have remained active with small earthquakes and output of materials.

According to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), Poás maintains a tremor of moderate but constant amplitude. Also, some volcanic earthquakes have been recorded.

A column of gases and water vapor has been observed from different areas of the country thanks to the existing weather conditions, especially in the mornings. At this time, the winds blow south. There is no report of ashfall or smell of sulfur,”

said the report on the entity’s Facebook page.

In the case of Turrialba Volcano, there has been a low to moderate amplitude, with some earthquakes.

It is possible that small emanations of ash occurred, although due to the prevailing weather conditions it has not been possible to observe them. No ashfall or sulfur odor has been reported. The winds at this time blow northwest,”

adds the publication.
