Was there a mistake in route 257 design?

March 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

General comptroller of the Republic Marta Acosta said that there was a mistake in route 257 design, which will link Braulio Carrillo highway with the APM Terminal megaport in Moín, Limón.

However, Minister of Public Works and Transport Carlos Villalta and director of the National Council of Roads (CONAVI) German Valverde said that there was not such a mistake.

The opinions were expressed in a hearing before the Commission for Control of Income and Public Expenditure of the Legislative Assembly, which was also attended by Minister of the Presidency Sergio Alfaro.

According to Acosta, the Comptroller General of the Republic found that the administration made a request in the direct contracting for the construction of the road and that’s not what is being done.

There is a mistake and we are doing a thorough investigation.

Was her answer to legislator Gerardo Vargas Varela’s question, who insisted that the failure will cost the country $ 14 million.

Villalta said that since he took office, he found a “complex situation” because he had to take the tender up to bid knowing that the final coordinate, where the construction of the road would finish, did not match the access to the terminal.

However, he admitted that the Executing Unit was ordered to start the tender process, knowing that the end of the road did not match the terminal.
