Water still scarce in San Pablo de Heredia

September 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The ordeal not only extended for four days. Despite restoring the drinking water supply in San Pablo de Heredia on Tuesday, a sector of that canton has run out of water.

According to the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), there are still areas that face problems with the supply.

Therefore, on Wednesday it was announced the suspension of the service from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in:
• Cruces.
• Crucitas.
• La joya.
• Doña Nina.
• Santa Isabel.
• María del Rocío and nearby areas.

AyA said that this is due to low levels in the supply tanks, after the damage in the pipeline that kept almost 20 thousand people with no water service from Saturday to Tuesday.

Systems are currently working with restrictions. The tanks are low water and the use of some users causes a shortage.

It takes hours and days to recover capacity by 100%. People are, at the moment, using more water than we have. There are a lot of things and work to be done,”

said the entity, through its press office.

Apparently, the shortage experienced these days was due to the damage of a pipeline caused by the works of a construction company.

The pipe, some 200 meters away, had to be replaced in its entirety over multiple leaks each time restoration of the service was attempted.

AyA indicated they will prepare a report of the incident. Once this is concluded, the legal department will evaluate any measures against the company that would have caused the damage.
