Weapons found in former Salvadorian president Mauricio Funes’ home

August 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Former President Mauricio Funes’ home was raided and the Salvadoran attorney found weapons that will serve as evidence in the investigation for alleged corruption.

Funes considered it a “show” because, according to him, the agency has not found any evidence of the alleged crimes for which he is under invesgation.

However, prosecutor Amaya indicated that the during the raid, several safes with firearms and ammunition were found.

Funes argued that the weapons are registered in his name and he claimed that they are legal.

As a result, Amaya stated that an expert will determine whether the weapons are legal and their value because some of them are collectible.

Since August 17th, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has started a series of raids on businessman and friend Miguel Menendez’ properties. The institution is looking for evidence for the alleged crimes committed by Funes.

The raids, 14 in total, including Funes’ house, have been authorized by Fifth Judge of Peace of San Salvador Inés Cuchilla.
