Who are the new members of the BCR Board of Directors?

The new members of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Costa Rica, as announced by the government, have experience in banking and finances, as well as in business.

Haydée Mendiola, Adriana Céspedes, Shirley González, Luis Diego Vargas, William Calvo, Abel Salas and Carlo Alberto Hernández arrived at the BCR to substitute the two managers who resigned: Gustavo Arias and Ronald Solís, and the five members dismissed by the Governing Council: Mónica Segnini, Francisco Molina, Alberto Raven, Evita Arguedas and Paola Mora.

Mendiola holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and a PhD in Education for International Development. She was President of the Board of Directors of Ibope de Centroamérica, General Manager of Ipsos, President and Manager of Unimer and President of GNC Live Well Costa Rica.

She, along with Luis Diego Vargas, are the manager managers who met the minister Sergio Alfaro, who recommended and appointed them, although he said they did not have a deep friendship.

Vargas was President and member of Conassif. He has also worked in the Inter-American Development Bank and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA). Currently, he is a prosecutor of the Executive Committee of the Liberal Progressive Party.

Adriana Céspedes is a litigating lawyer with Master in Business Law, with extensive experience as legal advisor of several companies, as well as bank trusts and judicial collection, according to the summary delivered by the Presidency.

Another of the members is Shirley González, who worked for Bicsa for 14 years while developing her experience in the credit area. She has been an independent financial consultant for more than 10 years.

The other three new directors of the BCR are William Calvo, an economist who has served as Executive Secretary of the Central American Monetary Council, in addition to holding managerial positions at the Central Bank.

Abel Salas was General Manager of Cooperservidores, and he is President of the Leadership Development Institute.

Finally, Carlos Alberto Hernández worked in the International Monetary Fund, he was Director of the Insurance Brokerage of the National Bank of Costa Rica and Manager of the Central Bank.
