Will national authorities extradite Wilter Blanco, known as ‘El Capo de Honduras’?

January 17, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Costa Rican judicial authorities must define in the coming days if Honduran criminal lider Wilter Blanco, wanted by the United States, will be extradited to that country.

Blanco, known as ‘El Capo de Honduras’, was arrested on November 22nd in a residential building in Belén, Heredia. He is required for offenses of organized crime, drugs and money laundering.

As reported by the press department of the Judiciary, the Criminal Court of Heredia processed the documentation provided by US authorities to finish Blanco’s extradition.

This decision could be made before January 22nd.

The subject, accused of being related to Honduran police authorities, would have fled his country in October 2016. He hid in several properties located in Limón and the Central Valley (Costa Rica).

The capo was accused by South Florida District Court of distributing cocaine imported from Central America. In addition, he is the alleged leader of El Cartel del Atlántico, a powerful drug trafficking organization in Honduras.
