Woman was sent home without surgery after being hospitalized

January 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Melissa Flores, 30, was admitted to the emergency room in San Juan de Dios Hospital on Monday morning because she was in pain due to gallstones.

They told me I needed a surgery and that I should not eat or drink anything to be ready for the procedure, it was a laparoscopic surgery. I signed the document for this (informed consent) and I have been here for days because the room is occupied,”

said the woman.

However, after days of waiting, Melissa was informed that she would be discharged because the pain crisis had already passed.

The measure only upset the woman because there was no guarantees that she would not be in pain in a few days.

I understand that there are people with more serious cases than mine and that there are priorities, but now they tell me that they are going to send me home, it is disrespectful towards the patient,”

expressed Flores.
