Woman would have killed her newborn baby to hide infidelity

February 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A 41-year-old woman named Calvo Obando is suspected of killing her newborn baby to hide infidelity, since her husband didn’t even know about the pregnancy.

On Monday, the prosecution of Turrialba ordered the arrest of the woman, prior to the hearing for interim measures before the Criminal Court of the province.

The crime for which Calvo is being investigated occurred on June 17th, 2016, on the east side of the public square of Turrialba, where the suspect notified the authorities that there was a garbage bag with a human fetus in the back of her house. According to the woman’s version, someone could have thrown the baby from a road that communicates with another neighborhood of the place.

However, the Office of the Public Prosecutor, on suspicion of Calvo, initiated an investigation against her and ordered the OIJ to seize the garbage to take samples of blood and compare the DNA of the baby with Calvo’s DNA.

The result was a match. The luminol tests performed on the house revealed traces of blood in the battery room and the result of the autopsy performed on the baby indicated death by asphyxia.
