World Environment Day will be celebrated with many activities

June 4, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Within the framework of the World Environment Day, the University of Costa Rica (UCR) has several activities planned for you to participate.

Under the slogan “Mother Earth Free of Plastic,” several activities will be carried out this week with the aim of raising awareness in the community about the need to make responsible consumption by eliminating plastic such as straws, bags, and plastic bottles, and replace them with reusable alternatives such as cloth bags and glass.

On June 3rd, the UCR joined the Ecocleteada at 9:00 am, which started at Plaza de la Libertad de Expresión, in front of the School of Architecture.

In addition, that same day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the vicinity of the parapet, people and their dogs enjoyed a lovely Sunday with lectures and recreational activities to promote healthy living with these animals in public spaces.

The University Cinema will have a varied program of environmental-themed films throughout the month. The venues and clasrooms are prepared with talks to the general public, orchards, and even bartering fruits and vegetables for electrical waste.

On June 5th, access to vehicles at the University of Costa Rica will not be allowed in all venues from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On June 6th and 7th, a waste collection and disposal campaign will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Since January, the UCR adopted a new policy, which requires all the cafeterias on the university campus to eliminate single-use plastic, and the internal stores must purchase only biodegradable materials.
