You can obtain marital status and birth and death certificates through the Internet

May 7, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Users can request marital status and birth and death certificates through the website of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) every day of the year, 24 hours a day.

The entity reported that this service can be managed from any smart mobile device or computer with Internet access.

Each digital certification can be used -without a limit of procedures- during the following 30 calendar days after its issuance. In addition, it will have the same legal validity as those issued physically. The cost is ₡ 1,575.

By managing these documents digitally, the user saves costs for transfers and waiting times. Similarly, people who are abroad can obtain them and make arrangements in Costa Rica.

The digital purchase procedure is very simple. Once the person enters the TSE website, they should look for the “Digital Certifications” tab; then choose the desired type, enter the data of the person to be certified, enter the information of the debit or credit card (number, security code and expiration date) and an email address.

At the end of the transaction, the person will immediately receive an email detailing the purchase made and the files acquired.

The TSE offers this digital service since October 2016 and, as of March this year, more than 105,000 digital certifications have been issued.
