¢4-billion plane will face drug traffickers in Costa Rica

The Ministry of Public Security presented the aircraft valued at more than ¢4 billion colones purchased to fight drug trafficking: the King Air 250, registration MSP-002, which was manufactured in 2018. The capacity is for four passengers and it is expected to perform special work against drug trafficking in the country.

The plane has a technological equipment for surveillance and patrolling. Data from the Air Surveillance Service revealed that the investment was over ¢4.2 billion colones.

The Embassy of the United States of America participated in the event, since the Government of that country contributed with $500,000 for the plane and $4 million for the conversion and training. Similarly, they donated $ 1.5 million dollars was given for technical support among others.

The new aircraft has the ability to fly at a height of 35 thousand feet and has length dimensions: 13.36 meters, height: 4.52 meters and wingspan: 17.65 meters.

The staff of the SVA was trained for the use of such technological equipment, this will come to strengthen police, operational and preventive actions in favor of safety from the air, by sea and on land,”

said the Ministry of Security.
