10 Salvadorian gang members escape prison and seek to hide in CR

A group of young men belonging to the gang Mara Salvatrucha (M13) escaped from a maximum security prison in Las Bartolinas in El Salvador. The guards were alerted after an anonymous call.

According to the police of the eastern department of Morazán, to be able to make the hole without being heard, the prisoners sang praises and applauded for several weeks to avoid being noticed by the guards.

However, after several days of practicing the lyric, the guards heard a strange noise and upon revision they found a hole of regular size used by 10 dangerous prisoners to escape.

The prisoners where in jail for murder and drug trafficking and they are: 21-year old José Francisco González Carvajal (also known as “Coche Bomba”), 18-year old José Salvador Cárcamo Calato, 28-year old Edwin Reynaldo Díaz Martínez, 24-year old Edwin Geovanny Vásquez Romero (also known as “Pato”), 23-year old Alexander Vladimir Argueta Argueta (nicknamed “Tío labio”), 25-year old Cristian Eduardo Cardona Sánchez (“Mutante”), Carlos Samuel Pineda Chicas (“Vendabal”), Mario Edenilson Argueta Romero, Kerin Alberto Guevara Argueta (“Perro”) and José Rigoberto Argueta Reyes, also known as “Churuco”.

The police authorities of the East of that Central American country carry out an extensive search of the fugitives, but it is still unknown if they were recaptured.

They have also alerted all police delegations and colleagues located on the borders of Central American countries, including Costa Rica, where Border Police has increased surveillance to prevent these men from crossing the border.

The guards in charge of the prison from which the 10 inmates escaped have been arrested in the process of investigation.
