July 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

National Police confirmed that Colombian authorities destroyed 27 clandestine drug laboratories and seized 615 kilos of cocaine as well as supplies used for cocaine’s production. It ocurred during an operation near the border with Ecuador.

Deputy director of the anti-narcotics police squad, Colonel Ricardo Alarcón, explained that as part of the operation, which involved several members of the army and counted on the support of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), about 400 officers were deployed for five days in Putumayo.

Agents destroyed the largest complex for the production of cocaine in the south.

Laboratories belonged to a criminal organization known as La Constru, that is also related to clan del Golfo, main criminal gang in the country. Cocaine was sent to Central America and the United States through Colombia and Ecuador’s Pacific coast.

According to a recent report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Colombia is the largest producer of cocaine around the world.
