300 detainees, but only one sentence

April 26, 2017 by Staff News Writer

300 people were detained by the Fiscal Control Police (PCF) from January 2015 to March 2017.

Those suspected of committing smuggling offenses were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office. However, to date, only one of them was convicted in the courts.

It is hard: they are investigations that cost us many hours and resources. Unfortunately, these people are still at large,

said Irving Malespín, director of the PFC.

According to the official, the arrests show that the work is being carried out.

We are going the right direction, but it is exhausting. It is our job and we have to keep doing it at all times. We will investigate them, detain them and appear them until we have positive results,

Malespin insisted.

Until March, the PCF seized 50 million cigarettes, 18,000 toothpastes and 30,000 medicines that entered the country irregularly.
