Ottón Solís talks about sentence to his campaign’s treasurer

December 6, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The legislator from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), Ottón Solís, referred to the sentence against his party’s former treasurer, Minor Sterling, and stated that the Party is following an ethical route.

The Criminal Court of San José sentenced Sterling to 6 years in prison for the crime of fraud after he charged the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) more than 300 million colones in expenses that were actually free. Manuel Antonio Bolaños was also sentenced to a term of three years.

Solís said it is necessary to freeze the funds they have so far for training spending and allocate this money to pay the funds to be charged after the ruling.

The legislator also stated that he would review the ruling before issuing an opinion about it, but decided to make a posting on his Facebook page on the subject.

I’ve always regretted that in the days after the 2010 elections, PAC eliminated the rule that allowed to charge a maximum of half of the political debt under national legislation. I vehemently opposed that decision. The campaign of 2010 was governed by the statutory rule that restricted the collection of political debt since our foundation,”

said Solís.

The legislator and former presidential candidate said he was “hurt” by Antonio Bolaño’s sentence, who he says was only taking orders.
