5 cantons of the South Zone will finally have Internet and telephony

December 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The residents of Golfito, Osa, Corredores, Buenos Aires and Coto Brus will finally have Internet and telephony services, thanks to the delivery of the first part of a project of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE).

Next February, 443 Centers of Public Services from these communities will count on those with those services from the Institute.

Our intention is to reach all corners of the country, closing the digital divide and allowing all Costa Ricans to have quality connectivity,”

said Jaime Palermo, Telecommunications Manager of ICE.

Last July, under the same program (Connected Communities), Fonatel awarded contracts to ICE to carry telecommunications services to five cantons of the Atlantic Area: Limón, Matina, Talamanca, Guácimo and Siquirres.

About 131,000 people in these cantons will benefit from this. Currently, the process of signing contracts is being completed to then continue with the construction of infrastructure.
