Fishing organizations joined in a cooperation agreement to promote technological transformation

In order to promote technological transformation in national fisheries, the National Training Institute (INA), the Costa Rican Institute of Fishing and Aquaculture (INCOPESCA) and the Costa Rican Federation of Fisheries (FECOP), joined in a cooperation agreement.

With this partnership, they aim to strengthen processes techniques and to gear more selective fishing through a research called “Research on tuna fishery with green and pelagic stick techniques in oceanic polygons”.

According to the authorities, this research will benefit the fishing fleets of the country: tourism and sports, medium-scale commercial and advanced fleet, as well as the industrial, tuna fleet.

Carlos Salas, director of FECOP, declared that the agreement gives the parameters by which the research is conducted. He also explained that the results will be used for decision making in the fisheries sector.

INA is expected to provide technicians, teachers, operating costs and Solidaridad, a research vessel. In addition, INCOPESCA will collaborate with the support of a biologist and scientific team to complement the research and FECOP will provide technological equipment of fishing and satellite navigation, as well as technical staff.
