Tortuguero will be greatly affected by storm Otto

November 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The area of Tortuguero would be one of the most affected with the arrival of storm Otto. The area conditions make it one of the most vulnerable.

The heavy sea could reach 2 kilometers inland and rain damages could affect more than 15 kilometers,

informed Juan Carlos Fallas, Director of the National Meteorological Institute.

Authorities declared that the areas near the Central and the South Pacific could be evacuated. It is important to highlight that the red alert is only enacted in the North Caribbean.

President Luis Guillermo Solís asked tour operators in Parismina to evacuate the 94 tourists left in the area.

Authorities will gather and will update the information at a press conference.
