Otto became a hurricane!

November 23, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Otto became the seventh hurricane of the season and is directing its passage towards the Caribbean coast between Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

This was reported on November 22nd by the National Hurricane Center of the United States (CNH), a scientific entity dedicated to monitoring these phenomena.

Otto would increase its influence in the country with rains, winds and imminent floods.

The CNH released an early report to warn that the hurricane could reach national shores on Thursday.

Yesterday, the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) and the Presidency of the Republic declared a red alert in the North Zone and all the Caribbean.

It is estimated that at least 4,000 people will be evacuated in the next few hours. The areas at greatest risk are Isla Calero and Parismina, Colorado and Tortuguero.
