6 cantons are still under red alert

November 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

According to the update of the authorities at 6:00 a.m., 6 cantons remain under red alert and strict surveillance by the authorities, due to the effects of Hurricane Otto.

Upala, Los chiles, Guatuso, Bacages, Golfito and Corredores are still on red alert.

This Monday, the Government announced that attention operations are headed to the towns of Upala.

In addition, an administrator was appointed for each of the 42 shelters set up by the National Emergency Commission (CNE), which give refuge to 5,363 people. The idea is to keep a tight control of donations.

President Luis Guillermo SolĂs said that 43 communities remain isolated due to fallen bridges or damage to the road infrastructure, but they received food and basic necessities.

Hurricane Otto left a trail of death and destruction in the country, after it touched the national territory last Thursday.
