11 days before deadline, only half of expected “marchamo” has been collected

December 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Eleven days before reaching the deadline for the payment of the vehicle ownership tax for 2017, the National Insurance Institute (INS) has raised ¢ 106,710 million, only 50% of the expected amount.

At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, only 640,000 people have paid the tax.

The owners of vehicles have until December 31st 2016 to pay for this obligation. After said date, they will have to pay additional penalties.

Those who do not pay the “marchamo” are exposed to receiving the penalties established in the Traffic Act, ranging from confiscation of the plates to temporary vehicle confiscation.

The law also provides that if a vehicle is caught by a traffic officer without “marchamo”, there will be a fine of ¢ 51,771.84.
