Comptroller requests cancelling credentials of Matina’s Mayor

December 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) decided to ask the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to cancel the credentials of Matina’s Mayor, Elvis Lawson Villafuerte, and restrict him from holding public office for two years.

The sanctioning body made the decision after holding him responsible for failing to file on time the municipal budget for 2014.

According to the Comptroller’s Office, Lawson is declared

administratively responsible, in a degree of fraud,”

and the cancellation of the credentials is recommended.

The Comptroller’s investigation report states that Lawson failed to comply with obligations under the Constitution, the Municipal Code and the Organic Law of the Comptroller General of the Republic by failing to timely present the expenses plan of the municipality for the year 2014.
