Two thousand patients wanted for surgery

January 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) is looking for two thousand patients with problems in the knee and carpal tunnel to operate them this year at the National Center for Rehabilitation (CENARE).

According to the director of CENARE, Dr. Roberto Aguilar, the plan will run throughout 2017 and aims to sweep all hospitals with insured patients who are waiting for these types of surgery. So far, they have contacted 1,000 patients in order to assign an assessment appointment and verify if they still require the operation.

The doctor explained that the condition of the carpal tunnel is an injury in which there is excessive pressure on the median nerve of the wrist that allows the sensitivity and movement to parts of the hand. The syndrome can cause numbness, tingling, weakness or muscle damage in the hand and fingers.

I have to clarify to the population that our officials do not ask for information related to accounts or bank passwords, so people should be careful and detect scammers who take advantage of these cases,”

said the director of Cenare.

The CCSS medical manager, María Eugenia Villalta, indicated that the day of surgeries will cost approximately $ 1,071 million, Said surgeries will be performed in the operating rooms of CENARE after 4 p.m.

Initially, they will call patients from San Rafael de Alajuela and Max Peralta de Cartago hospitals. Then, they will extended the service to people on the waiting lists throughout the country.

You can contact the project managers at 2232-8233, extension 356 in working hours.
