Turrialba volcano’s ash plume does not exceed 500 meters

January 6, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Although Turrialba volcano has had a constant eruptive activity, the ash plume does not exceed 500 meters.

Mauricio Mora, expert at the National Seismological Network (RSN), said that the tremor has had great amplitude and eruptions have not been sustained, but they have increased by periods.

However, the direction of the winds towards the southwest have changed, which is affecting communities like Tibás, Coronado, Moravia, Guadalupe and some sectors of Heredia.

Due to the ashfall, Volaris airline canceled three flights, which are:

-Y4 313 from San José to Guadalajara, which was scheduled for 1:25 pm.
-Y4312 from Guadalajara to San José, which was scheduled for 12:05 pm.
Q6 4001 from Guatemala to San José, which was scheduled for 11:31 am.

Juan Santamaría airport operates normally.
