Legislator denounces alleged defects in RECOPE billing system

January 11, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Humberto Vargas, legislator from the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC) Party, demanded an explanation from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) for a possible defect in the billing system of the institution.

On Monday, the legislator addressed a letter to the CEO of the company, Sara Salazar, which indicates that since December 12th, the amounts of deposits from some customers apparently doubled and more fuel withdrawn from the company, which could imply the sale of products under an unauthorized system of credits.

In the letter, Vargas asked whether RECOPE has a system with alerts about inconsistencies in billing and product outlet processes.

The legislator also asks details about the amount of money that was deposited into the coffers of RECOPE, the format of the bill, whether it was on credit or cash, and the names and amounts of money from companies and individuals who were favored by the error.

Vargas also demands to know about the measures that RECOPE will take to solve the situation and who will be responsible for recovering the money that apparently have been registered as credits.

As you can see, we would be facing a billing error that costs billions to the country, all coming from public funds which belong to all Costa Ricans,”

warned the Congressman to Salazar.
