Get ready! La Platina will be closed for a month

January 12, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The transit through the bridge over Virilla River, known as La Platina, will be closed for a month. The closure, first in the direction Alajuela-San and then in the opposite direction, is necessary to work on the bearing surface, because the work at the bottom of the bridge is already completed.

The closure will begin on January 21st and will remain for 30 days, as confirmed by Mauricio Herrera, Minister of Communication.

During those weeks, the company in charge of the expansion and reconstruction of the bridge will demolish the existing slab, place a new one and expand a lane.

The government had made a commitment to have the works ready for February 28th. In fact, the President of the Republic had said that, if they did not meet the schedule, he would ask for the resignation of the Minister of Transport, Carlos Villalta

Herrera said that on Friday they will inform about the mitigation measures to avoid traffic jams.
