Campaign seeks to eradicate use of phones while driving

March 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday, the “Practice Safe Text. Don’t do it while you drive” campaign had its first operation aiming to eradicate the use of the cellphones when behind the wheel, in the sector of La Sabana.

This initiative of the Road Safety Council, along with the company crautos.com, aims to raise awareness of the danger of sending or reading messages while driving.

The idea of this first activity is to have a positive impact in at least 600 drivers, who are given a poster with important information of what happens on the road when your attention is focused on the phone.

According to the authorities, texting while driving increases the chances of an accident by 23 times.

Only in 2016 there were almost 800 road deaths and more than 3,000 people were injured.

These operations will be repeated in the coming weeks in different parts of the capital.
