The Costa Rican Embassy in Washington DC, USA, rushed to correct a serious mistake in the references they give on the website about the Costa Rican national hero Juan Santamaría. The page indicated that the man from Alajuela had gone down in history for putting out a fire in the inn of Rivas, Nicaragua.
Juan Santamaria, a young man who became a national hero by putting out a strong fire, where Walker’s troops called “filibusteros” were camping on April 11th, 1856,”

They tried to contact the embassy by phone, but there was no response. After this diligence, a few minutes before 9:30 a.m., the embassy had already corrected the mistake.
Now they indicate that his declaration was given by Executive Decree No. 8935, for his heroic deed in the National Campaign of 1856.
