This May is one of the rainiest since 2008

May 25, 2017 by Staff News Writer

This month is one of the rainiest of the last 20 years, according to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN).

Meteorologist Juan Diego Naranjo explained that this is based on rainfall records from this month compared to the same month in other years.

A rainy May as this had not been seen since 2008, when we had the influence of tropical storm Alma, resulting in a double and even triple amount of rain. However, this year the amounts of rain are approaching the ones of 2008,”

explained Naranjo.

This month the accumulated rainfall reaches 450 millimeters (at least in the San José station), while in 2008 it was 496 millimeters. In some areas of the country, rainfall amounts to more than almost two decades ago, for example, in Cartago, according to Naranjo.

What can you expect? More rainfall, according to the expert.
