Former police officer led gang suspected of torturing and murdering nine men

June 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) confirmed that a public security official headed the organization linked to the torture and murder of nine people in drug “tumbonazos” cases.

The 41-year-old suspect is Angulo Pérez, who now works in a security company.

The leader and his right hand were Purral neighbors. However, arrests were made at sites in the Southern Zone and other points in the Greater Metropolitan Area.

Angulo worked a few years ago in the Public Force and was currently employed by a security company.

However, there are other people linked: Fernández Salazar (31), Ugalde Varel (25-year-old woman and Angulo’s partner) Rodríguez Gutiérrez (25-year-old neighbor from Ciudad Neilly), Castro Madrigal and Piedra Segura.

The subjects are investigated for a triple murder in La Giralda de Alajuela, another triple crime occurred in El Rodeo de Coronado and a double homicide in San Francisco de Coronado.

The group stole drugs in average amounts of 25 to 40 kilos, torturing and killing the witnesses.

The crimes occurred between 2015 and 2016.
