Director of Mexico Hospital: “The risk of death for Pérez was very high”

June 26, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The risk of death for Minor Pérez, after being rescued last Saturday from under an embankment in La Garita de Alajuela, was very high and he died on Monday.

Due to the crush syndrome, the risk of death was very high. Statistically and historically, there have been very few survivors,”

said Douglas Montero, director México Hospital.

The doctor explained that after being trapped, the body goes through an inflammatory stage that releases substances that cause vasodilation and hinders the arrival of blood and oxygen to vital organs.

This syndrome begins once the victim is released, as injuries to the muscles release substances in large quantities that are not tolerated by other organs and cause a collapse.

On Sunday, the doctors had amputated the victims’ legs in an attempt to save his life, but he lost the battle.
