Emergencies due to heavy rains are focused in 16 cantons

The National Emergency Commission (CNE) has dealt with 66 emergencies caused by heavy rains and other weather conditions that have occurred in the last couple of days.

According to the Commission’s records, emergencies are focused in 16 cantons, most of them in San José: Buenos Aires, Golfito and Corredores de Puntarenas .

The central canton and San Carlos de Alajuela were also affected. In Guanacaste there were emergencies in Tilarán, Santa Cruz and Abangares.

In Heredia, emergency services were provided in the Central canton and Belén, In San José, emergencies were handled in Escazú, Puriscal, Desmparados, Mora and the central canton.

We have paid particular attention to what happened in the San Carlos area of Florence, where there were very important floods in the afternoon and on Monday night,”

said Ivan Brenes, president of the CNE.

Floods, strong winds and landslides are the most reported emergencies. However, at noon on Tuesday there were no open shelters.

The phenomena of the last hours respond to the passage of tropical wave # 29 and the low pressure system that affects the country.
