CNE: Homes and roads affected by heavy rains on Monday

August 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Monday afternoon, the strong winds caused various emergency situations, such as tree falls and flooded streets.

According to David Meléndez, MOPT’s emergency general manager, several trees fell on the Boulevard de Rohrmoser and in the nearby Subway area in La Sabana.

The official said that on route 32, near the newspaper La República, a vine obstructs a quarter of a lane, which may be removed on Tuesday.

In Rancho Redondo, there are several partial landslides that obstruct much of the gutter. There is a lot of residue in the gutters, making the water flow towards the road and the vehicles.

Sigifredo Pérez, of the CNE, explained that as a result of the rains in the Central Valley,

there were 20 incidents, two in the central canton of San José in Barrio México and around 18 in the canton of Alajuelita in El Llano, due to the floodwaters of the Chinchilla ravine and the obstruction of a sewer system that affected about 15 homes. Therefore, the Municipal Emergency Committee of Alajuelita is assessing and cleaning in El Llano.”

Drivers are advised to drive with caution or use alternate routes.
