Campaign “Trenzando Sonrisas” needs caring people

October 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Trenzando Sonrisas is the name of a campaign that takes place from 2013, looking for caring hearts who want to donate hair to make wigs, which will be used patients diagnosed with cancer.

Rodrigo Alfaro, marketing director of the project, explained that it is organized by the Cooperative Hospital in Ciudad Quesada, San Carlos, which is in charge of collecting the hair and that the Amor y Esperanza Foundation is in charge of making the wigs and giving them to patients.

We work with the Foundation, what we do is the collection (…) Once a year the stylists of the area come together and support us with their work, making professional cuts to all people who arrive. The idea is for people to be happy with the cut and help,”

said Alfaro, who added that every eight braids make a wig.

This year, the collection will be held on October 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Cooperative Hospital.

Also, from now on, people from all over the country can send their hair braid through the Costa Rica Post Office. They should only pack it in an airtight bag with their personal data (name, ID and contact number) and send it to Cooperative Hospital in San Carlos.

Alfaro explained that in 2016 they received 800 donations, so this year they expect a thousand.

Those who wish to donate (in person or by mail), should only have clean hair, which is not discolored, and with a braid whose minimum length should be 20 centimeters.
