January 9, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Agricultural workers found four antipersonnel mines one meter deep on a Moravian farm on Tuesday morning. Mariano Figueres, director of the DIS, explained that they Claymore mines, of horizontal explosion, were found inside the sack, and it is estimated they could have been buried there 20 years ago.

Immediately, the pre-established protocol for this type of event was activated and officials of the Explosives Group of the Special Intervention Unit, of the DIS, as well as of the OIJ, were present at the site,”

said Figueres.

For the moment, the Special Intervention Unit is in charge of the scene, as a judicial depository of the explosive material to be destroyed later.
