Poás and Turrialba volcanoes in degassing process

January 14, 2018 by Staff News Writer

During the last 24 hours, Poás and Turrialba volcanoes have maintained a permanent degassing process, but without the emission of ash.

The Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported that in the case of Turrialba Volcano the seismic activity has remained at a low level and that the winds at the top of the volcano are directed towards the south.

Poás Volcano has a gas plume that rises to just under 500 meters high, but

No ash emission was detected. The level of seismic activity is low. In general, most of the seismic signals recorded in Poás are basically generated by the background noise produced by external factors,”

says the report of the entity.

In Rincón de la Vieja and Tenorio volcanoes there has been no activity in the last hours.
