Three men were arrested in the northern border with thousands of dollars

January 23, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday afternoon, officers of the Public Force apprehended three men suspected of transporting 16 thousand dollars of dubious origin on a vehicle.

The incident happened in Corrales Negritos de La Cruz, border with Nicaragua, when the Public Force carried out a roadblock. At the time of arrest, the subjects behaved nervously, so they were asked to step out of the vehicle. In doing so, the officers observed several bags with large amounts of dollars.

According to the head of the delegation of La Cruz, Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Araya, the subjects are two Nicaraguans and a Costa Rican named Cortés, Duarte, and Mata, respectively. They claimed to have made a business, but did not specify what kind. Now the Drug Control Police (PCD) investigates the case.

According to Araya, one of the Nicaraguans and the Costa Rican have a record for other crimes.

The PCD works on the case and will determine during the day the total amount of the money and if they located weapons or psychotropic substances in the vehicle.
