Authorities found a fishing boat with no permits 300 Km from the coast

February 27, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Martin Arias, Coastguard Director, assured that the Bismark vessel, with Puntarenas license plate P-9781, did not have a fishing permission to cover 300 kilometers from the coast, but only 75 kilometers, and it also did not have a Global Positioning System (GPS) with which the authorities would have located it more quickly.

Arias reported that the people who were rescued are:

Víctor Umaña Villegas, 30 years old
Jorge Fernando Chavarría Mendoza, 63 years old
Audiel Rivas Bejarano, 39 years old

The captain of the vessel Florencio Vásquez, 67, died, according to the fishermen, because of cardiac arrest.

These people, said the Coast Guard Director, were lost since last Wednesday and on Sunday night they were found by a Seaways Rubymar oil tanker, with the flag of the Marshall Islands, which was heading to Ecuador and deviated about 90 kilometers from its original route.
