Rafael Caro Quintero, a Mexican drug trafficker, is on the list of the 10 most wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which also mentioned in a press conference that he is the leader of the Sinaola Cartel, from Costa Rica to Mexico.
The US Department of State Narcotics Rewards Program offers a reward of up to $20 million for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of Caro Quintero.
The historic capo founded the Guadalajara cartel along with Miguel Ángel Felix Gallardo and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, alias “Don Neto”
Quintero was arrested on April 4th, 1985 in a luxurious villa located in San Rafael de Alajuela. The capo was accused of participating in the assassination of Enrique Camarena, an undercover agent of that agency, which occurred on February 9th in Jalisco.
At the press conference, Russell Ellersick, agent of the FBI, indicated that he got out from a prison in Mexico in 2013 over a technicality and that currently he is the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most bloodthirsty and to which dozens of murders are attributed.
Ellersick also explained that Caro Quintero is called
THE drug trafficker, he is like a ‘Godfather’ for these people, he is like a demigod.”
In Costa Rica, the Mexican owned several properties, such as the mansion called La California, in San Rafael de Ojo de Agua, just three kilometers from Juan Santamaría International Airport.
With him, the Mexicans José Albino Bazán, Juan Carlos Campos, Luis Beltrán, Miguel Lugo, and Violeta Estrada were also arrested, as well as Sara Cossío, the daughter of a former governor of Guadalajara who was thought to had been kidnapped but turned out to be Quintero’s mistress.
The man had three more properties, one in Vásquez de Coronado, where the National Olympic Committee is currently located; another one in Bello Horizonte de Escazú, and another one in San José de la Montaña.
