Two hunters were arrested inside the Guanacaste National Park after killing two mountain pigs (Tayassu pecari) and one peacock (Crax rubra), two endangered species.
The suspects respond to the surnames Sánchez Sanarrusia and Sánchez Mayorga, residents of Las Armenias de La Cruz de Guanacaste. The first one has a record for illegal hunting activities within protected areas.
Along with their prey, the hunters carried a 12-gauge shotgun and more than 25 projectiles from that firearm.
There were four more hunters who fled when they saw the officials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE),”
informed the Conservation Area of Guanacaste (ACG).
The subjects, arrested on June 16th, were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office of Liberia to be prosecuted for violation of the Weapons and Explosives Law and by the Wildlife Conservation Law, which punishes infractions with penalties from six months to one year in prison. Also, with penalties of 10 to 30 base salaries.
