Tech failure caused long lines at Juan Santamaría Airport

October 14, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A flaw in the computer system of Migration caused long lines and crowds on Sunday morning at Juan Santamaría International Airport, the main gateway for tourists.

According to the General Directorate of Migration, their control systems and servers were affected by Internet and connectivity failures between control points and central offices, so parallel action protocols were applied to avoid affecting the departure and entry of travelers. These protocols involve a remotely checking the passengers, supported by officers located in central Migration offices.

The process of immigration control includes security systems check, Interpol, travel bans, and review of exit permits for minors.

Daniel Oduber International Airport also reports damage due to system failures; however, there are no delays or long lines.

According to official sources, administrative officials of Visa Management, Information Management, General Directorate and the Migration Police work on solving the problem.
