After the enactment of the executive decree that regulates the distributed generation of energy for self-use, the National Commission of Energy Conservation (Conace) reported that it has received 28 petitions for connecting these system into the distribution networks.
Distributed generation allows to produce your own electricity from clean energy systems like solar, wind or biomass.
In the records presented by Conace shows that Coopelesca got two permissions for solar projects with a capacity of 10 Kw; Coopeguanacaste, four projects of 16.05 kW; the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), five projects with a capacity of 33.63 Kw; and the Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (Cnfl) another 16 solar projects with a capacity of 112.84 kW.
The “Junta Administrativa de los Servicios Eléctricos de Cartago” (Jasec) has also a project approved and it consists of a bio-gas plant with a generation power of 250 kW.
The expenditures of ICE for opting to this kind of generation round up 170k colones, including additional visits (worth 80k colones); Cnfl spent around 125k colones and Empresa de Servicios Públicos de Heredia (Esph) expended 90k colones.
Irene Cañas, Energy vice-minister, claimed that this kind of generation:
It is an alternative for clients to lower their electric bills. It’s energy that is produce form clean sources and that adapts to the vision of energetic development of the country”.
