Authorities found a boat with 600 kilos of marijuana on a beach

June 14, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The police found 600 kilos of marijuana in a stranded boat, early Wednesday morning, in the sector of Isla Damas de Parrita, Puntarenas. This was confirmed by the Press Department of the Ministry of Public Security (MSP).

According to the spokesmen, the officers immediately guarded the place with the National Coast Guard Service and the Air Surveillance Service, who were patroling by sea and air to locate more drugs. According to Michael Soto, Minister of Security, the alert came from Colombia, and ipso facto, they started with the operation in search of the drug. The Drug Control Police (PCD) joined to carry out the investigation of the discovery.

After arriving at the site, they did not find any suspects, so there were no arrests. For this case, the specialized canine unit was requested for drug tracing on the Isla Damas beach.

The PCD registered 643 rectangular shaped packages with marijuana. 32 of the packages weighed approximately 1/2 kilo. As detailed, the seizure and transportation of the drug lasted about six hours while officers faced adverse weather conditions.
