Parties propose a shortcut to bills on evasion and luxury pensions

May 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

In the standoff for finding the best solution to fiscal problems, the leftwing ‘Frente Amplio” party and the center-left “Partido de Acción Ciudadana” joined to call other political blocs to agree minimum conditions regarding seven bills.

The agreement proposal would apply shortened procedures to seven bills, among these, the draft legislation to strengthen fight against fiscal fraud, the corporate income tax, and an efficiency plan to manage public resources.

A representative from the center-right Union Social Cristiana (PUSC) and an independent also subscribed the proposal.

According to Edgardo Araya, the head of Frente Amplio, said that other parties wouldn’t oppose to accept their calling. Given that bills involved have almost general support.

For the president of the Legislative Assembly, Antonio Álvarez, and members of his party, what the sponsors of the proposal did was getting ahead of a similar plan, which they will present by the start of next week.
