Attention! Reduction in fuel prices will be effective as of Thursday

August 29, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Starting at midnight, fuels will have new prices, after a reduction approved by the Regulatory Authority of Public Services (Aresep) at the request of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope).

The changes represent a decrease of between 60 and 17 colones per liter in the different products distributed by the state company.

The Chamber of Fuel Entrepreneurs confirmed that the modifications were published this Wednesday in the official newspaper La Gaceta.

-Super Gasoline will go from 692 colones to 632 colones per liter.
-Gasoline Plus 91 will go from 666 colones to 609 colones per liter.
-Diesel will go from 543 colones to 526 colones per liter.

This adjustment corresponds to the extraordinary study of August, and the main reason is the changes in the national economic environment (exchange rate) and the international prices of the products imported by the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope).

These rebates are explained by the interaction of the supply and demand of the international hydrocarbons market. On the supply side, there was an increase in crude oil production in the United States, which raised its inventory levels.

In the case of demand, the strengthening of the dollar in recent days caused a lower demand for both crude oil and refined products as financial protection commodities for investors. Likewise, the refineries in the North American market reduced their margins, transferring this effect to the final prices.
