Firefighters congratulated over letter asking to be excluded from the right to go on strike

The Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica congratulated the Costa Rican Fire Department after the latter asked the Special Commission of the Legislative Assembly to be on the list of essential activities for which file 21.049 bans strikes.

This is stated in a letter signed by the president of the Chamber of Industries, Enrique J. Egloff. dated Wednesday, August 28th, which is addressed to Héctor Chaves León, general director of Firefighters and Manuel Pérez Artavia and Elian Villegas, executive president of the National Insurance Institute (INS).

The members of the Fire Department of Costa Rica are heroes, patriots and an example of delivery. We are extremely grateful for their services to the country and they do an immense honor […] to the people of Costa Rica,”

says the document.

The letter by the Fire Department states that their “mission is to prevent and protect to safeguard life, property and the environment, in emergency situations. It is clear that our service is essential, because there is nothing more important than protecting life […] Providing our services in a timely manner, with sufficient human and material resources, could be the difference between life and death, both of whom we serve, and of our staff. We should never skimp on that.”
