May 27, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) arrested nine police officers, suspected of being members of a violent burglary band. In total the (OIJ) conducted 17 raids, in which were detained four more suspects besides the accused police officers.

According to the OIJ, the officers robbed homes while simulating normal police routines, appearing to raid and search homes so as not to alarm neighbors. The suspects used their patrol vehicles, uniforms and service firearms to commit these crimes, according to OIJ.

The men had been detained for 10 robberies that took place from July 2015 to date. The officers worked in the delegations of Tibás, El Carmen, Hospital and Asseri, and are between the ages of 23 and 36. In addition to criminal charges, the accused have been removed from the police force.
