Dairy farms begin road to climate change adaptation

June 3, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) delivered $ 1,100 million allocated by the US Aid Agency (USAID) for the implementation of a Strategy for Low Carbon Livestock (EDGBC) in Costa Rica.

These resources will be used for the promotion of protein and energy fodder banks to feed the national herd, as well as other practices to improve productivity.

It was also announced that Fundecooperación and the MINAE’s Climate Change Direction will deliver a contribution from the United Nations Adaptation Fund, for $ 400,000.

The National Chamber of Milk Producers, MAG and major dairy companies in the country will use these resources to begin a pilot program for dairy farms to adapt to climate change.
